Pool and reservoirs waterproofing

  1. External rehabilitation of pools

 

A) Preparation:

1. Stationing of scaffoldings around pool
2. While the pool is on ground level, dig 50 cm deep around pool, until bottom of pool in order to expose parts of concrete that are under ground/asphalt level.
3. Visual identification and knocking of loose concrete, including edged.
4. Quarry in order to remove concrete and loose/bloated plaster, until receiving clean and steady concrete surface.
5. Expose scope of reinforcement steel and at least 1 cm behind it and 5-10 cm on both sides of exposed steel.

In order to prevent unnecessary quarry in proper concrete, define steel exposer borders by using a disk for carving concrete. Make slots in the proper concrete on the sides of the damaged steel.

6. In case of severally damaged steel, weld part of new steel for completion.
7. Rinse area with high pressure water in order to remove excess sand and concrete.
8. Remove rust from steel and any pipe with water pressure or sand cleaning or mechanical means until complete removal of rust.
9. Spread protecting material on to steel in order to prevent future rust, for example Sika top EC 110 or Sika monotop 610.
10. Spread second coat of Sika 610 on reinforcement steel and concrete.
11. for fractions above 2 mm, expand with crystal disk V shape across 5 mm at least.
12. Fill fractions that were sawn by elastic materials such as Sika flex pro 3.
13. Sockets that were formed during preparation and quarry stage, will be rehabilitated with non-shrinking materials that are designated for concrete restoration.

 

 B) Concrete restoration- 3 options:

1. Rehabilitating with Sika Top 122 or Sika RP:

Apply a number of layers, two hours between each layer.

Filling thickness up to 3cm for each layer.

Applying thicker layers is possible by adding 3mm thick aggregates.

2. Rehabilitation with Sika latex mixture:

Prepare a mixture of that includes 1 part mortar, 2.5 parts “Zifzif” (beach sand) with addition of Sika latex super (SBR) diluted with water 1:1, until desired proximity.

In this mixture fill layers with 12-15 mm thickness, two hours’ difference between layers. Applying thicker layers is possible by adding 3mm thick aggregates.

Curing with hardening of layer a number of times in the first two days and twice a day for the next three days.

3. Rehabilitation with Sika Top 122 or RP and grout latex:

Filling with mixture of Sika Top 122 or RP until complete cover of steel with 5-10 mm thick layer above concrete.

Complete the concrete above Sika Top 122 or Sika RP, up to original concrete surface with grout latex as described above.

It is important to be precise with correct curing according to thickness of filling.

 

C) completion and finishing layer

1. 1-2mm thickness of coating (with Sika Top Ceil 107)
2. Paint 2 layers of polymeric paint such as Sika Color S 680 in desired shade.
3. Color pipe and all parts of steel, including rails, ladders openings, covers and accompanying systems that are made from steel, around pools- epoxy polyurethane color.
4. Fill digging holes around the pool and complete with concrete or asphalt if needed.
5. Remove scaffoldings, clean and clear waste

 

D) external waterproofing of pool roof:

1. Clean and clear loose parts from all areas of roof
2. Rinse with water and soap in order to get a clean area.
3. Waterproof all areas of roof with waterproofing material such as Sika Top Ceil 107

The cover wil be about 2 kg for square meter.

 

  1. Rehabilitation of internal pool:

 

1. Station scaffoldings on pool floor, and prepare protection for existing waterproofing system.
2. Rehabilitation of concrete ceiling according to protocol written above.
3. Coat and waterproof ceiling with waterproofing material such as polyuria or Sika Top 107.
4. Remove loose rust and paint.
5. Paint internal pipe and all steel parts that are in the internal part of the pool with epoxy paint, that is approved as drinking water.
6. Disinfection of pool according to health protocol.
7. Avoid damaging internal waterproofing sheets.
8. Cast a 2×2 cm piece of concrete material or polyuria material such as Sika Flex or grout concrete such as Sika Grout 214 (also known as “Rolka”).
9. Two options for rehabilitating internal concrete:

A) Polyuria

 

A1- Concrete rehabilitation as mentioned above- external rehabilitation.

A2- Perform a PH test on concrete. Wanted value 6-10.

A3- Perform a moist test on concrete. Max value of 4%.

A4- spray concrete penetrating primer that contains 100% solids and weighs 300 gr to square meter, in one layer or two until concrete surface is completely coated, with no signs of harm.

The waterproofing should be done with a polyuria material that is approved for drinking water with 2 mm thickness.

A5- After removing loose rust or paint, paint internal pipe and all steel parts with epoxy paint that is approved for drinking water.

B) Sika Top 107

 

B1) Concrete ceiling rehabilitation as mentioned above – internal rehabilitation.

B2) Waterproof and coat concrete with waterproofing material such as Sika Top 107.

B3) After removing loose rust or paint, after removing loose rust or paint, paint internal pipe and all steel parts with epoxy paint that is approved for drinking water.

B4) Disinfection of pool according to health protocol.

Waterproofing and rehabilitation quality warranty – 5 years.
